Cardboard Dreams

Looking for an inspiring way to wrap-up your week? Caine's Arcade is a touching video about a 9-year old boy who built an elaborate cardboard arcade and invited people to play. Thanks to some fortuitous connections, big things happened.

I love this video for so many reasons, but one reason is because I remember encounters with kids like this when I worked at a public library. I remember an 8 year old asking for books on investing, a 10 year old asking for books that would help her get into a good college, and so many other examples of the ingenuity of kids. This spirit inspires me like nothing else. A big reason for the success of Caine's Arcade is because someone became aware of his project and decided to try to make a big difference for him. It worked. It's amazing. I think librarians have that opportunity all the time. Connecting people to books, to information, to an audience, to possibilities... that's important stuff.

Have a great weekend!
